In the country wise ranking, India was ranked 122nd out of 181 countries. Singapore topped the Index for the 1st time, followed by Slovenia & Norway.
  • In August 2021, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change announced the addition of 4 more wetlands from India, 2 each from Gujarat and Haryana in ‘The Convention on Wetlands of International Importance/ Ramsar Convention.
  • The President of India, Ramnath Kovind approved the Constitution (127th Amendment) Bill, 2021. After his ascent, the bill has changed into the Constitution (105th Amendment) Act, 2021 which will restore the power of states and Union Territories (UTs) to identify and specify Socially and Educationally backward Classes (SEBCs).
  • India’s first smog tower launched in Delhi as a pilot project by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at Baba Kharak Marg, Connaught Place.It was developed by IIT-Delhi and IIT- Bombay

  • India and UK Navies conduct ‘Exercise Konkan 2021’ in Portsmouth, UK
  • World’s 1st 3D-printed Steel Bridge, a 12-meter long steel structure, developed by MX3D, a Dutch robotics company in collaboration with a consortium of experts, has been opened to the public in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The unveiled ceremony of the bridge was presided over by Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. The 3D printed bridge has been installed over one of the oldest canals – Oudezijds Achterburgwal – in Amsterdam’s city centre.

  • India is all set to host the 2nd United Nations World Geospatial Information Congress (UNWGIC) in October 2022 in Hyderabad, Telangana on the theme ‘Towards Geo-enabling the Global Village’. It will be organized as a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (Celebration of 75 Years of Indian Independence)’

  • The Government of Tamil Nadu government has decided to celebrate the birth anniversary of re-formist leader E V Ramasamy Periyar “Social Justice Day”. E V Ramasamy Periyar was born on September 17. This day will now be celebrated as ‘Social Justice Day’ each year.
